About the Author

Jeyaseelen Anthony is an experienced practitioner in running down and personal injury cases as well as civil and criminal matters. He has acted as counsel in a wide spectrum of cases raising important issues like the non-recognition as a head of claim of the cost of future living expenses of a totally incapacitated person; a citizen’s request for a police officer to show his authority card not amounting to obstructing a public officer from carrying out his duty; and the constitutionality of section 37A of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

In the area of public service, he has served as a Local Councillor at Majlis Bandaraya Petaling Jaya for almost six years. As a fervent believer in the supremacy of the Constitution, he has written a book on sedition entitled Seditious Tendencies – Political Patronisation of Freedom of Speech and Expression in Malaysia which was published in 2009. In 2013 he wrote a simple book on the need for an Equality Act in Malaysia. He was a Consultant Fellow and Tutor at the University of Malaya teaching Advocacy and Legal Drafting and tutoring Constitutional Law. He also served in the Selangor Bar Committee for two terms as Chairman of the Selangor Legal Aid Centre and headed the publication sub-committee.
